2010/2011 Skating Programs and Schedule

PROGRAMS OFFERED AT THE PERTH FIGURE SKATING CLUB:
Pre-CanSkate:
Offered to "new to skating" skaters, aged 3 to 5. Skaters will be taught basic skating fundamentals with a focus on continuous movement and fun activities to keep skaters interested in learning newskills. This program develops a solid skating foundation by mastering standing on the ice, learning how to get up and fall down, balance, posture, stopping, pushing, skating forwards and skatingbackwards. This is the introduction to skating for many youngsters. This ia a half-hour group lessonby a Professional Coach, assisted by Program Assistants, within the Club. Helmets are mandatoryfor the entire program. These skaters are working on the Stage 1 Badge, offered by Skate Canada.
CanSkate:

Offered to skaters that have completed the PreCanSkate program or have some experience with skating.This is a recreational program offered by our Club to help skaters with basic skating skills first introducedin the PreCanSkate program. Skaters work on all six fundamental movements of skating (Go Forward, Stop,Go Backward, Jump, Turn and Spin). The program is offered once a week for one hour. Skaters will beinstructed by Professional Coaches and assisted by our Program Assistants. Skaters progress through stages and will be moved to new groups as the Professional Coaches see fit. Skaters in our CanSkate program work on Stages 1 through 4, offered by Skate Canada.

Intro To STARSkate Package:
This is offered to skaters, who are working on their Stages 5 through 7 Badges. Skaters interested inpursuing figure skating are encouraged to join this program and a Professional Coach will speak to youabout your skater and their interest in progressing further into skating. The Intro into STARSkate programis a program that uses the CanSkate badge system but also introduces skaters to the disciplines involved in figure skating. This program provides a transition for the skater into the STARSkate program.

STARSkate Program:
The STARSkate Program is offered at three levels at the Perth Figure Skating Club:
1/ Junior STARSkate: Must have completed the Stage 7 CanSkate Badge by September 1, 2010.
2/ Intermediate STARSkate: This is a "limbo" level between the Juniors and Seniors. Offered as a two or three day Program,these skaters will have an opportunity to skate with both, the Juniors and the "stronger" SeniorSkaters. In order to qualify to be an Intermediate STARSkater the Skater must have passed ANY1 OF the Preliminary Tests (i.e. The Preliminary Dance Test, Preliminary Skills Test OR the Preliminary Freeskate Test) by September 1, 2010. 
2/ Senior STARSkate: Must have passed ALL THREE of the Full Preliminary Tests (i.e. The Preliminary Dance Test, the Preliminary Skills Test AND the Preliminary Freeskate Test) by September 1, 2010.NOTE: For this Season only, Skaters, who have already moved up will not be required to move down to fulfill the new requirements. 
PLEASE NOTE: Group Lessons are NOT offered by the Club at the STARSkate Level, except in Conditioning and Stroking.STARSkate focuses on Skills, Tests, Achievement and Recognition. The Skate Canada STARSkate program offersopportunities for skaters to develop their figure skating skills through testing and competing. Figure skating skills are taught in group and/or private lesson format in the following disciplines: Freestyle, Dance, Skills and Stroking/Conditioning.Once mastered, tests are tried at the following levels: Preliminary, Junior Bronze, Senior Bronze, Junior Silver, Senior
Senior and Gold.

CanPowerSkate:This Program will not be offered this Season.
